Professor Lin Faqin, School of Economics and Management, China Agricultural University, lectured at the 284 South China Economic Forum

Lin Faqin, professor from the School of Economics and Management of China Agricultural University, presented an academic report entitled "Weight Gains from First Fast Food Restaurants: Evidence from China" at the South China Economic Forum on the afternoon of Oct 29, 2020. The study used data from 11 rounds of the China Health and Nutrition Survey to match the density of KFC and McDonald's near the respondents' communities to examine the impact of the entry of multinational fast food restaurants on the weight of Chinese residents aged 4-60 years. The study found that the entry of KFC and McDonald's increased the incidence of obesity among Chinese residents, especially those with lower education levels and men. The article further estimates the resulting loss of welfare.
