摘要：

Inspiredby partial forward integration practices, this study investigates how asupplier allocates the capacity of a key component between the supplier andmultiple external manufacturers by incorporating the endogenous relationshipbetween bargaining power and capacity allocation. Each firm can use thecomponent to produce substitutable final products. We analyze the equilibriumoutcomes when the supplier and the manufacturers have inherently differentcost-efficiencies in producing and selling the final product. We show thatunder endogenous bargaining power, the supplier may allocate partial componentcapacity internally for his own production even when the supplier’s and themanufacturers’ products are perfect substitutes and the supplier has a costdisadvantage. This provides a strategic perspective for the coexistence of bothcooperative and competitive relationships between the supplier and themanufacturers and the phenomena of partial forward integration. Interestingly,the supplier may allocate more capacity internally on becoming lesscost-efficient in the final product and may allocate asymmetrically for thecost-symmetric manufacturers and symmetrically for the cost-asymmetricmanufacturers. Our main insights extend to settings with imperfect product substitutionand alternative outside options of the supplier.

卿前恺，华南师范大学经济与管理学院副教授、硕士生导师。华中科技大学博士、博士后，加州大学伯克利分校国家公派联合培养博士。主要从事运营与供应链管理、多渠道管理、平行进口及博弈论的应用等相关研究。主持国家自然科学基金、中国博士后科学基金、广东省社科规划项目等，以第一/通讯作者在《European Journalof Operational Research》、《Transportation Research Part E:Logistics and Transportation Review》、《Energy Policy》、《系统工程理论与实践》等国内外重要期刊发表论文近20篇，任《Naval ResearchLogistics》、《European Journalof Operational Research》、《Energy Policy》、《Energy Economics》、《InternationalJournal of Production Research》、《Journal of the Operational ResearchSociety》等期刊审稿人。
